This particular piece stands out as the most astonishing among all my projects, a testament to the unexpected wonders of woodworking. The 8" x 2" Leadwood blank had been a quiet presence on my shelf for some time. On the day this piece was turned, it was chosen somewhat arbitrarily, my primary intent being to reacquaint myself with the lathe after a brief hiatus.

My previous experiences with Leadwood had led me to expect a uniform and somewhat unremarkable grain. However, as the turning process unfolded, I was astounded by the extraordinary beauty that emerged. The grain, far from mundane, revealed a captivating complexity that I hadn't anticipated. This piece, arguably the most exquisite of my works, serves as a striking reminder of the hidden beauty that lies within the most unassuming materials.
